All About Alysa Tarrant

What inspired me to write?

It was destiny for me to be a writer. It was in my genes. Both of my parents have some sort of background in writing. From a young age I was encouraged to read and write. When I was little my mother swore I would never be able to read because it took me about an hour to read one page of Dr. Seuss's The Foot Book. But here I am today writing and hoping to someday make a name for myself.

Writing is such a release. For me writing is like dreaming, except I can control what's going on. I truly enjoy writing because I can see the progress I'm making. I see the word count go up and the plot begin to thicken, and at times I don't even know how the story is going to end.

Writing is a way to express myself in a way that nothing else can.

Who are my favorite authors?

There are too many to list but I'll do the best I can.

Sarah Dessen is probably one of my all time favorite authors. I love the way her books are realistic but at the same time the characters have a magical quality that pulls you in. Her characters are also very relatable. For me, Sarah Dessen's books remind me that a part of my life could be in a book too.

John Green is another one of my favorite authors. So far I've only read two of his books (Looking for Alaska and The Fault in our Stars) and I am telling you, that man can write! His books are so touching and at the same time so realistic but magical. I guess you could say I enjoy realistic fiction.

Suzanne Collins. Of course how could I not have her. The Hunger Games rock! 'Nuff said.

And since we're talking about The Hunger Games another one of my favorite authors has to be Koushun Takami. I have only read one of his books Battle Royale but I am so glad I did! It was actually an impulse buy at Target and I have to say it was the best impulse buy ever. I highly recommend it, though it is graphic in the blood and guts department.

Why do I want to be a published author?
I won't lie. I would like to be famous. But that is only one of the reasons. Sure I'd also love to be rich (which is probably a bit of a long shot unless I become the next J. K. Rowling) but I also just want to share my stories with people. I'm the type of person that has to have her opinion heard and what better way than to write a story and get it out there for the world to read.

Even though we are only here briefly, our writing is something that will live on forever. Because when we're remembered, we're not really gone.
